I have two staff that share the same phone set but have different vmail boxes. One has the mailbox associated with that extension but the other has a mailbox with a different number. Now this was programmed before me so I am trying to replicate it so I have added an unassociated mailbox with the original number used. The issue is that when I try to dial it I get invalid extension number. I know I am probably doing something wrong but don't know what that is. I am running an AXXess 10 system.

What are you trying to dial it from? If it was an option from a greeting it would have disappeared at the point you deleted the box.... If you are lifting the handset and dialing the number it will not work where it isn't an extension it's a mailbox, you would need to call the VMS and dial the box number to get to it..... Version 10.0 could have had a phantom built and associated the MB to the Phantom but more than likely you just need to access the VM first then the box

That is what I thought, but if I want to transfer callers to that mailbox will I be able to?

Press the voice mail key instead of the transfer key, then the mailbox number to transfer calls directly to any mailbox.

Or you could create a phantom with the same extension number and associate it with the mailbox. You can then dial it as an extension or transfer calls to it, so people don't have to treat this user differently than a regular extension. Remember to assign an immediate forward path to voice mail.

Another option would be create a hunt group and associate it with the mailbox. Make the shared phone the hunt group member, and recall to a CRA to send calls to the mailbox. Each person then has their own “extension” number and voice mail.
