There may be a power supply that needs to be inline with the phone - I don't remember with the 1416 model. If someone smarter (like Mongo) doesn't show up with the answer I'll look up the documentation for you.

Putting a button module on a 1416 will require a power supply. Early versions would allow a 48 volt PoE injector to be used. Connect the extension line cord from the wall to the LAN port of the injector, then use a patch cable from the PoE side to the 1416. If that won't work for you, you'll need the Avaya proprietary adapters and power supply to make it all work.

There are two versions of the power injector and Avaya sucked at making that clear. This has been a big dig for me and I'm probably breaking rules here. Do send a photo of the power brick to [email protected] and I will help you.

If you have an old 1151C1 power supply, you just go wall jack to power supply, power supply to phone (8-conductor cable here), and connect the sidecar to the MOD jack on the phone.

If you have a standard SPPoE power supply, they included a T-adapter (2 jacks with a pigtail). The pigtail goes into the wall jack, which needs to be 8-conductor, or use an 8-pin coupler to the standard line cord plugged into an RJ-11 jack on the wall. Then a CAT-5 cable from the PoE injector to the T-adapter, and another CAT-5 cable from the other side of the T-adapter to the phone.
