I had to purchase a new USB to serial adapter. Hooked up to a SVMi 4e and get no response. Using Hyperterminal and all my settings are correct. Sowing connected and getting the flashing cursor.
Device Manager shows the serial adapter on COM Port 3. Is there a particular brand of serial adapter to use? Thanks.

I've only tried a couple but never had an issue.
If memory serves you need a straight through cable (pins 2,3 and 5)

9600,8,n,1 are the default settings from memory. Maybe 38400,8,n,1

Thanks. I have those settings. Are you saying I need a straight through cable in addition to the usb to serial adapter?

From memory the svmi has a male connector like the usb-serial adaptor does so unless you have a long usb lead and a "gender bender" i don't see how else you could connect the 2 together?

It has been many years since i've seen a svmi4 though

Thanks PVJ. Going to pick up today.

This is the one I bought. Behaves like it's connected but no link/power lights on the adapter.

Yours had a female connector.
Pvj's has a male connector.
You will need either a female to female "gender Bender" or a female to female straight through cable to connect to the svmi.
By straight through I mean pins 2,3 and 5 the same config at both ends.
I used these and a cat 5 in between

That way you can wire them as needed.

Yes mine has a male but I have always used the cable that Samsung provided at one time here believe it was made by black box and it's a f-f cable.
