Hello all, using an SLT port to provide DT to an elevator call box. (push button, box dials out). Elevator Tech says line voltage is under powered and shouldn't be on the phone system. Sadly, VZ will not replace street to MPOE feed cable unless we cough up $$$. Moved the former POTS to Comcast PRI and we want to use the SLT.

Any cheat sheets on programming? What could I do to up the line voltage?

I'm not sure if they did a long line card for the 9100 and getting one if they did may be difficult but there are bigger issues here.

I would personally run a mile if asked to do this due to liability. If there is a power outage and the lift stops, the odds are that unless you have a serious UPS on the system (and any equipment that provides the lines like the router for SIP) the passenger would be unable to call for help. In this situation, if someone dies, who would the lawyers come after? Add to that the fact that the UPS would need to be tested on a regular basis to ensure it was still up to the task, it's not worth getting involved.

You can get units that use the cellular network to dial out and have built in batteries that the unit self tests and can send a report by either email or SMS if attention is needed. You set this up to email/sms the property manager (I would also have it BCC me so I have the proof) and you have covered your backside should anything go wrong, much safer for you!

If you need something for other than elevator phones, I've used a Viking TBB-1B with success.

Ok so just checked and if you must do this, the card you need is the GCD-4DIOPB. This is the off premises SLT board and provides -48V just like a standard Pots line. Take care though of the power requirements for the system as these reduce the number of SLTs available on the system.

Again it won't work in a power outage (Without a UPS) which is when it is most needed!

The only time we got permission from the AHJ for a elevator phone to be a SLT was when the telephone system worked off a backup generator. Health Care setting, so that part was easy.


2.27.1.1.4
Where the elevator rise is 18 m (60 ft) or more, a communications means within the building accessible to emergency personnel shall be provided and shall comply with the following requirements:

(a) The means shall enable emergency personnel within the building to establish communications to each car individually. The communications shall be established without any intentional delay and shall not require intervention by a person within the car. The means shall override voice communications to outside of the building.

(b) The communications, once established, shall be disconnected only when emergency personnel terminate the call or a timed termination occurs. A timed termination by the communications means in the elevator, with the ability to extend the call by emergency personnel, is permitted if voice notification is sent by the communications means to emergency personnel a minimum of 3 min after communication has been established. Upon notification, emergency personnel shall have the ability to extend the call; automatic disconnection shall be permitted if the means to extend are not enacted within 20 s of the voice notification.

(c) Once the communications have been established, a message shall be displayed on the same panel as the phone push button, that is activated by emergency personnel to indicate that help is on-site. The message shall be permitted to be extinguished where necessary to display a new message [see (e)] or when the communications are terminated.

(d) The two-way communication means shall provide on demand to authorized personnel, information that identifies the building location and elevator number and that assistance is required.

(e) After the call acknowledgement signals are sent [2.27.1.1.3(c)], the two-way voice communications shall be available between the car and authorized personnel.

(f) The two-way communications, once established, shall be disconnected only when authorized personnel outside the car terminate the call or a timed termination occurs. A timed termination by the two-way communication means in the elevator, with the ability to extend the call by authorized personnel, is permitted if voice notification is sent a minimum of 3 min after communication has been established. Upon notification, authorized personnel shall have the ability to extend the call; automatic disconnection shall be permitted if the means to extend are not enacted within 20 s of the voice notification.

(g) The two-way communication means shall not use a handset in the car.

(h) The two-way communications shall not be transmitted to an automated answering system. The call for help shall be answered by authorized personnel.

(i) Operating instructions shall be incorporated with or adjacent to the “PHONE” push button.

Thank you for the response, we have battery backups on the NEC and the building has a generator.
