Terminating a large job and was thinking of using Decorex 2 port ICC Faceplates. This would allow us to install and then put tape over plate before painters came in. Good or bad idea? Thanks.

I've used Decora faceplates many times, but never installed them before the painters finished. Seems like it would work out alright to me... Although personally I would prefer to terminate after the painting & flooring are done as it's a much cleaner environment! (I know, I'm a wuss)

Never underestimate Painters or Drywallers in their ability to screw up your work.

You mean that you are going to install these first theseThen go back and install the plates? I guess that could work but I think it's going to be more expensive over regular one-piece plates. -Hal

I would be concerned about splatter plus the fact that you now have to make another trip back to put on faceplates/labels.

That was the plan. We could terminate, plate and cover the plate with painters tape. This would allow us to start terminating prior to painting and give us a bigger window. We are looking at about 500 terminations. Thanks.

Since your jacks snap in from the back of the plates, terminate your wires, then wrap them in the cheap, store brand baggies- the ones without zippers that they practically give away- to keep paint off your terminations, then go thru and plate everything after the painting is done. Quicker for you, quicker for the painters who now can just spray and get lost , as opposed to having to cut in everywhere.
Taping over the plates before painting is going to leave a tattle-tail ring of unpainted drywall around the plate. Might not fly with the GC.

(We never bought in bulk).

We used the baggies because we could get more of the wire inside. Hated paint on the wiring.
