Recently worked on a job where 6000' of cat 6 cable had to be removed because it failed a fluke certification test. The electrician pulled 12,000 feet of wire in 2 colors , cable from same company just different color. I was brought in to terminate jacks and do server room and floor rack. When i went to certify all the white cables passed but 75% of the yellow cables failed , not on either end but in cable itself, I thought ok electricians just pulled to hard, but they were pulling multiple pairs at same time and each locations had 1 of each color so that made no sense . In 35 years doing this, first time this has happened. Electrical contractor bought through his supply house , So I had him buy different brand and reran cable, everything went fine with new cable. The sad thing is though i had saved the test showing Fluke's test results ,i accidentally erased it when I went to test new cables so supply house did not want any of the bad cables to send to manufacturer so Contractor had to eat added costs . I told him it was my fault as this was first time I was using the Fluke DSX 8000 and while it was similar to older version it had some changes. I was so glad that i used pass thru patch panels as this let me redo 60 cables on the rack. In future I will spot check cables if not a name manufacture. Live and learn.

Ok, maybe you didn't save the original test results but why weren't some samples of the cable saved? This should be on the EC, I assume he pulled them out. He could have had you test them then go after the manufacturer directly. Why did you say that it was your fault because it was the first time using the new tester?? Do you want him to come after you for the costs? He should really be paying you.
And, so we all know, what was the brand of cable that failed?

Hal Had a huge pile of pulled out cable, his supplier would not take it , only wanted fluke"s test results. Tried to get electrical contractor to push it and left it at that. I will post a pic of stack of cable boxes and small pile of wire. Enlarge to see brand. I did a test of unused wire out of box and it passed but not by much. stock number j552304-02 John

Should have tested some of what was pulled out but I can see them saying that it was damaged. As long as you are not out any money I wouldn't worry about it. If the EC doesn't care why should you?
