Hi all - I've found a few posts that seem to answer my question, just looking for confirmation from an esteemed expert on my particular setup/situation:

We have an Inter-tel Axxess on 9.113 that has both older digital keysets and 10 IP phones, a mix of Mitel 8662's and 8622's. I was told by the company that services our system that in order to add more IP phones, they have to be purchased through them. That sounds to me like they're just trying to keep me from buying them somewhere else, but the posts I've read here about adding IP phones all mention licensing issues. I've also read about phone systems using proprietary technology. So... the info I need confirmation on (for those in my company who I have to go through to approve purchases) is this:

1. are licenses required for each individual IP phone
2. if so do they have to be purchased from the company that services our system
3. if the technology is proprietary, where can I find a list of compatible phones?

1. With V9.113 you will need a license for each IP Phone. If you had an older version of software and an IPRC card with older firmware on it, you could get away with a PAL chip but you're past that point I'm sure.

2. If you have a good relationship with your vendor, then I would always recommend getting the phones through them. At the very least you will have to get the licensing through them. If you didn't want to do that, you would have to sign some paperwork and have it processed etc. to get it elsewhere. The short answer to your question is yes, you can get the physical phones elsewhere including but not limited to the owners of this site.

3. The phones are proprietary. With the software version you have, you are going to want to stick with the 8662/8622 models.

Stix1 - thanks so much for the quick reply. Unfortunately, the relationship with the vendor is not so good. They have done unnecessary work in the past, or work that was done a certain way so that if anything needed to be changed they would have to be the ones to do it. I'm obviously wanting to get away from that situation. Thanks for the helpful info!
