Our voicemail to email was working again then, late last week, I had a message show up on my phone. My maibox is set to "forward only". Normally if there is a problem with the email fowarding, my messages just get lost. They do not show on the phone in lieu of email.

I suspect someone may have left a call back message not a voice mail message

No. I have messages on my phone and it is forward only. I have called my mailbox and left voicemail messages. They immediately show up on my phone. They do not go to email.
