Our system is Inter-Tel Axxess 5000, using database 11.004, DB Studio 1.67
I'm trying to figure out if there is a setting in our system that I can turn off to avoid the MSG light from blinking on the phones for anything other than an actual voicemail message. Let me explain:
Typically this is our Receptionist but others do it too from their own phones by accident, if you press the MSG button and then the other persons extension, the light will flash on their phone like they have a voicemail but it's really just a call back message.
The recipient must press MSG on their phone and it will ring back to the persons phone who initiated it. It's very irritating and almost always pressed in error. Not many in the office like this feature. Unless the other party actually answers the call back, the light will continue to flash until they do answer.
Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance!

Why would someone deliberately press a series of buttons and then claim there’s a problem with the phone?
If it is lit “in error†the light can be cleared by pressing MSG *. Or call the person back and tell them to knock it off.

LOL on knocking it off. I agree. It's a pain. I'm the one who has to answer everyone when they call me to tell me their lights won't go off. I'll try the MSG* though. Was not aware you could do that. I just wish we could program each station to turn that nasty feature off. Thanks for your reply.

Actually, “knock it off†is my standard answer. But seriously, if I can track down the person pressing the message key (if the users cooperate), I’ll ask them why they are pressing the key. The most common response is to leave a voice mail message.
If the Message Center is programmed correctly for the station, pressing the message key and waiting a few seconds will take the caller to voice mail. Hanging up will light the lamp.
System / Devices and Feature Codes / Endpoints / (Specific Extension) / Associated Extensions / Message Center. Make sure the voice mail application is entered there.
If programming is correct, a little training should solve the problem. After all, how many times a day do people “accidently†press their DND or FWD keys?

I usually change the message key to a "Message Notification and Retrieval" button (whatever that is in your voice applications) that will ONLY light id it is a Voice Mail message not a Call Back Message Randy

Totally agree with 'DND ON'.
Why would users be pressing the MSG key then extension number (while their phone is idle) unless they knew they were trying to light someone's MSG light? BTW, you can also dial 368 from phone to turn out light without having to call the phone that lit the light.
I suggest you change system timer 'Message Wait' to one second and then train users to dial extension first, then press MSG key.
