I have M5312 centrex phones, some of which are very old. The handsfree function works on the newer ones but not the older. Just wondering if this is a defect or if the older versions had handfree at all.
Beer, sure I'll try one

Just off the top of my head I'm thinking the 5312 comes in both handsfree and non-handsfree versions. I know the 5209 does.
You must have the power supplies connected in order for handsfree to work properly (as well as 6 conductor line cords)
