THe current PC is windows 2000. What is the highest version of windows i can install the axxent software on and what should i be weary off? Also, what is the best way to back up the entire software? thank you

You best bet is to upgrade to an Inter-Tel Axxess or Mitel 5000. All your phones will move over.

The Axxent runs on OS/2. You might be able to get it to work with some OS/2 support.

That's the call processor that runs the system. It connects to the CPC card on the KSU.

As to any upgrade capabilities.
It depends on the system version, but Windows 2000 is probably the latest OS software that it runs on. It looks like Axxess 11.0 software introduced software support for Windows 2003, and had an upgrade software kit to prep the system to run the CPS app on Windows 2003.
Basicly, you have to treat this system as a black box, and not a PC. If you start thinking it of a PC, you'll run into compatibility problems, and it won't work. They are embedded systems that happen to be running windows. Not something you can mess with.
If you want to add resiliency, buy another CPS windows 2000 unit off eBay or from a dealer and have it ready sitting on a shelf to move into production if one fails. Don't try to upgrade the hardware, or freshen the OS, or anything else.
The only real hardware refresh is to go to something like the Mitel 5000. You can keep the phones, but the card cage, CPS and VPS or EMS get replaced totally.

Actually you really can't 'transplant' an AXXENT system to another PC. The system is not a traditional PC but rather a phone system in a PC tower case with power supply. Everything inside is really all Inter-Tel.
Inside the case is a single board computer (SBA) running the phone system & voice mail software (DOS), a voice board (for vmail), two or more Inter-Tel cards (for phones and lines), and all are plugged into a proprietary backplane (pseudo motherboard).
Your best bet is to get another AXXENT off eBay for parts. Take the hard drive out so you can clone it off your existing system. At least then you will have a sort of 'warm' backup plan.
The parts that WILL eventually fail on the AXXENT are (in order of frequency): 1. hard drive 2. power supply 3. cpu fan 4. sbc 5. serial i/o card
Hope this helps.
