Recently we have had a rash of thunderstorm damage in our area. A few customers are requesting a letter from me for their insurance company. Does anyone have any ideas or examples of letters that they would be willing to pass on. Or maybe a place on the net with some info. Thank you in advance.

Only thing I ever did was give them a price and on the quote or invoice put equipment being replaced due to lightning damage, nothing fancy.

We usually just write a Dir Sir letter with exact date of the damage and the exact parts that were damaged and the fact that the parts were damaged beyond repair. Some insurance companies send us a form to fill out and we fill it out and fax it in.

Make sure in your invoice you state that it was due to lightning damage and that the equipment being replaced is NON-REPAIRABLE......

Make sure your paid now and not involved with the insurance claim .
Sometimes they wrap you around the axel for
6 months with letters ,proof and questions.

Just to stay out of the argument, we usually state that the customer reported the problem after a lightning storm, parts are non-repairable, and (depending on visible damage) that damage is consistent with lightning damage.

Also tell the customer that they pay you now and settle with insurance on their own.

Take it from someone who is located in the Lightning Capitol of the US (at one time the world but some mountain in South America got hit a few more times) [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]. Most insurance companies have a Lightning Affidavit they want filled out and sent to them and hold the equipt (we leave it on customer site and report as being on site). So we had our own Lightning Affidavit made up took the questions listed on most of the insurance carriers and put it on ours with our Logo. I will email you a copy of it.
"And before everyone post email me one too let me say if your profile is not completed dont even ask."
