Note, I can't take the system down during the day much as we get dozens of calls an hour. And this issue below cost us some serious issues with clients this morning.
Setup: Partner II V4.1 2nd Cabinet Partner Messenging VM card, 4 port
Ok, see if you can stay with me on this description.
Installed a replacement Partner II V4.1 cpu (old one had a bad battery) Friday morning. Programmed the basics (time/date, 6 incoming lines, no automated attendant answering). Also install the Partner Messenging unit as well Friday morning. Didn't setup the VM system yet. Made sure it wasn't answering as well. We have voice mail from our phone company for people to leave a message if we don't answer.
That worked just fine Friday morning, afternoon, and night. Worked Saturday and worked Sunday night as well. No changes and nothing was programed.
Monday morning (today), the system goes haywire.
Outgoing calls and internal intercom calls operate normally.
Incoming calls do the following in order: - Ring on line 1, first FOUR hunt group lights go SOLID RED instantly (no flash of red while ringing). - Caller gets a message, "Please wait while you are being transfered." - Ext. 10 starts to ring, like it was transfered to Ext. 10. - While Ext. 10 is ringing, after the 1st ring, the last two of the four red lights turn off. - At the same time, the first two red lights flash quick green, along with the green for the Ext 10 intercom.
Senerios: - If no one picks up Ext 10, the caller goes through an endless loop of 6 rings and "Please wait while your call is being transferred." - If you pick up on Ext 10, you get the intercom TONE and the call is dropped. The first two flashing green lights go off, and hangs up the caller. - If you happen to press LINE 1 (the ringing/incoming line) WHILE Ext 10 is ringing, THEN pick up on LINE1, LINE two green light goes off, EXT 10 stops ringing, and you can answer the call.
Sounds like crap eh? Trust me, I went through this about 4 dozen times until I nailed down the procedure and senerios.
For now, I put the old CPU back in place (v4.1). The issue with it is the backup battery is bad.
I've spoken to Craig and he wants your advice from this board first before he sends another CPU to me.
I've cycled the power several times. I've removed the replacement unit, installed the old CPU, tested and worked fine, and then re-installed the replacement, with the same issues.
I've also tried the reset command via the System program feature (all programing features work normally it seems).
I've tried re-programming the hunt group as well as the automated assistant answer lines. Nothing changes this operation. Enabling or Disabling the Night service or the ASA doesn't change it's operating neither. I also recorded a greeting as the book says it is required. Still, nothing changed this operation.
Need another CPU? Eric

Sounds like a bad CPU but try removing the voice mail module and power system back up. Will the call come in o.k. without the voice mail module. If I understand you correct, the vm is in cabinet 2 -- try powering up cabinet 2 first than power up cabinet 1.

Its sounds like the hunt group for the VM is programmed wrong.Check the ext in program #505 group 7 and make sure that you only have the 4 ext of your VM.if you did that it should work fine most likley.
Good Luck

Well, nothing has changed. Still had the older CPU in (witht he bad battery) and everything has been working, until...
I tried to connect via a RS232 serial cable to the VM system (Partner Messaging System) to program it for our LAN. Set to 19200, 8, N, and no hardware control, I get no prompt.
I tried hitting enter. Entering the "Sysadmin" command, etc. Nothing but garbaged. I tried turning Hardware Control on, even more garbage. No echo either.
I noticed the GREEN status light on the VM system (and yes, it's inserted in the 2nd cabinet) starting to flicker green, slowly.
I continued to try to connect via a LAN connection, setting my PC to 10.0.0.43 and subnet of 255.0.0.0 and other subnets (255.255.0.0, 255.255.255.0). Nothing. I can't talk to the Vm system.
Well, a call came in. All four lights lit up again, JUST LIKE the original problem I posted above. And this is with the old CPU.
Dialtone may have hit it on the nose that our brand new Partner Messaging Release 1.0 (not refurbished) is the issue. I've removed the VM unit from the 2nd cabinet and placed our replacement CPU (with the good battery) back into the cabinet.
We'll see how long it works like this for a few days. And yes, I power up the 2nd cabinet before the 1st. I've noticed the 1st cabinet actually turns both on (if the 2nd is on first).
So it may be a bad VM unit? After paying $1900 for a new part, wouldn't you think it wasn't the issue?

I might be mistaken, but I did not think the Partner Messaging could go on anything but the ACS systems.

Z-Man is right. the partner messaging requires am ACS R1 or higher. I think that the bord emulates a 308 even though you can only get upto 6 ports.

I discussed it with Craig, and he took some time to find someone "in house" that answered that very same question. And the answer was "Yes, it would work."
I was skeptic as well.
So the only option I have for the Partner II V4.1 cpu is the 2- Port Partner VS-10 mb. R-5? I want an in-cabinet option. Not an external option like the Partner Mail 2/4/6 port systems.
Can you verify I can not use what I just purchased (per Craig's suggestion when I was calling to order the above item)?
Thanks, Eric

Also, it states the max number of mailboxes for the 2- Port Partner VS-10 mb. R-5 is 10. Is this correct?

I had a similar problem on an ACS, and it turned out to be that the wrong extensions were selected as the voicemail ports. The technician who installed the VM was off by two extension numbers.
I hope this helps.

Yes, but was it a Partner ACS CPU? I have a Partner II V4.1 CPU that I was trying to get working with the Partner Messaging for ACS.
I guess this is not an option.
