My company has a Definity G3 system release 10. We currently use Avaya Site Administration software to administer the PBX. This only allows us to have 5 simultaneously logons. (at least so I'm told). My problem is that I have 20 tech that do the level 1 phone support and only 5 of them can be logged on at a time. I had heard that there was a web based interface that could be used to administer the PBX and it did not have the 5 user logon limitation. Is their web based interface and do you know if I could get some documentation to show our administrators?

How do they access the system now? Modems, data modules? You can access thru your network with a TN799DP C-Lan card using Avaya site admin. Look at Avaya's web site at System & Network Managment-VisAbilty Management Suite.

I thank you for your reply. We currently access the PBX through Avaya site administration software which is no more than a terminal emulator. We give it an ip address and there we go. Also... We can access it through a modem as well. I do not know if we have the TN799DP C-Lan card. I am only a level 1 phone tech. I know how to punch them down and TTI them up. I guess... my main question is there a way to get around the "5 user logon limitation"? Any help is appreciated greatly.

Why would you want more than 5 people in there anyway?, too many hands in the cookie jar already. It doesn't matter how many you have logged in, if someone has a change command going you still have to wait until they are done., and oh damn if they walk away for lunch while doing it.

Good point from Ken. Definity software uses a checkout method, meaning that when you're using a command -- it's checked out, meaning no one else who is on the switch can use that same command until the previous user is done with it.

I don't believe that there is an ASA limit to 5 users through TCP/IP. If you're using an IP address to connect to your Definity, then you have a CLAN card. If I'm wrong, and there is such a limit... try adding a few more ports for SAT service. That may rectify it (do disp ip-serv to get a list of what you've got going now, and cha ip-serv to add some more ports. It may be that the service only allows X amount of connections per port, I'm not sure.)

The web based software you're talking about uses one login, and passes commands into your definity through that single login. The only ones I've seen are terrible pieces of software, and only handle the most basic commands.

I remember the Definity only being able to have 5 active logons at one time. Some of the web based software that was developed is a GUI interface much like Avaya's Site-Admin. It is its own program that can be developed and customized for your own application. It use's one to five ports to make changes. Changes would que and wait for a port. That way complete changes or queries would run and release the port for the next user. Check out, Connect-VU and Second Nature.

That's weird on the five active logins.

I'm sure I could change that.

I have some information on how to get to a shell in the definity... and from there I can do some damage.

But I wonder if they'd notice considering they do their audits on the bigger Definities frequently...
