I am trying to wire a house we are remodeling with 4-pair wire for the owner's old Lucent Merlin phone system.
The best I could figure, you are supposed to wire the 4-pair with the T568B wiring standard (orange/white, orange, green/white, blue, blue/white, green, brown/white, brown). Unfortunately, though, when I plugged the phones in to the cables with this configuration, nothing happened.
Can anyone tell me the correct configuration to use when wiring these phone systems?
Thank you for any help you can give me.

You have your jack ends right, what are you using at the KSU ? Remember they must be straight through, treat as a network and you will get them to work.

Thank you for your quick response. I tried hooking it up like I normally do networking and it didn't work.
I am supposed to be using Cat-3 4-pair wire with RJ-45 connectors, right?

568B is the old WECO standard. Plug the phone into the control unit direct to make sure it's not the set or control unit. You are wiring it correctly. Bill
Sorry DTMF we must have crossed paths.

justbill I beat ya by 4 min ![[Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]](https://www.sundance-communications.com/forum/biggrin.gif) No problem mochanic, Plug the sets right into the KSU to be sure all is ok with the ports as bill suggested, I have also seen many people use the wrong type of line cords, when you hold them up they should match just like a patch cord.

I greatly appreciate all your help, but it still isn't working for me.
I plugged the unit directly into the main unit. It works with an old cable, but not with my new one. They do look like they are the same cable too.
I would just replicate the old cable's configuration, but it has different colored wires that are not in pairs. It goes blue, orange, black, red, green, yellow, brown, gray. Is there anything else you could think that I could try?
Also, does it make any difference that I think these are Merlin PLUS phones?
Thanks again for your help.

Yes you're right the cable that comes with the phone has no rhyme or reason as far as 568 scheme goes. So what was it you found wrong? Hope I beat DTMF this time. Bill
