Thanks for that information. dtmf, in a note above, indicates that the 2X6 206 module which is now installed will not live happily with messaging modules. Apparently there is a 3X8 processor (R6?) which will do the job.

Pete, you indicated that you were upgrading to an R6 or R7 ACS along with Partner Messaging. In this situation, the ACS becomes the processor, and the 206 modules that currently make up your entire phone system can go into the carrier and become expansion modules for the ACS. With an ACS R6 and 5-slot carrier, this would give you a 7x20 capacity (9x21 with an R7)

petegerster, What I said was that you can't add VMS to the 206. You can use it as an expansion module with a R6 or R7 in a 5 slot carrier. Tommy is correct, don't get a 2 slot.

These posts are really useful in helping me to get my arms around the solution. I sure appreciate your patience. As I understand it now, for a "2001 Honda Accord" kind of solution, I could acquire an R6 and a 5 slot carrier, reuse the currently installed 206 and add voice messaging either in the form of a PCMCIA card (cheaper) or an additional ACS module (more functionality). This would provide for a maximum of 5 CO lines and 14 extensions. The questions that arise in my mind concerning the above configuration are: (1)Does this compromise future expandibility relative to an R7? (2) Would the R7 be simpler to administer? (3)Should I have any concern for reliability relative to R7? (4)Is the information at https://www.avaya.com/ac/common/index.jhtml?location=M1H1005G1007F2028P3076N4512 the best source for a description and comparison for my voice messaging options. Thanks again for your patience.

If your going to upgrade to R6, and want to go to a R7 in the future then you would just replace the R6 with the R7 and reprogram. If you are thinking that then I would suggest just going with the R7 in the first place.
