I'm just curious on something. Which phone systems have a number-to-name translation feature?

This allows the system to lookup every phone number in the phone system's databaese and find see if it can find a matching name which is displays on each phone's LCD?

I heard that many times you can only get basic caller ID(number only) from a phone company. Sometimes they are unable to provide a name or want to charge a lot of money for a name attached to the caller ID.

This feature is great if your working with a set number of customers who all have open accounts with you(not when dealing with the general public)

I am just curious if any other phone systems have this advance features besides the Samsung iDCS 500?

I don't believe NEC has anything like this.

Thanks.

Well, you could always do the Outlook thing and use TAPI or TAPI2 and use an outlook databse to pop up when the callerid is presented to the phone.

The Number-to-name translating feature the Samsung uses act just like if you had deluxe caller ID from your phone company.

Your phone rings, you look at the LCD display and there is the person name instantaneously.

Its a completely seamless real time operation. There is no need to open any computer programs or java apps on your computer. It works courtesy phones in your of Lobby, Kitchen, general phones around the office,etc.. This comes standard with the phone.

Don't those TAPI applications cost thousands of dollars for some type of integration kit and require to setup a server connected to the phone system which needs to integrates into the LAN and need a client application installed on each PC in the office?

Inter-Tel Axxess if the caller ID is sent Name then number, but it will only show the first item that is sent. And I always thought both were sent, well at least here in Dallas. Not sure about out in BFE, Texas?

Panasonic kxtd 500 number to name translation table.
TDA - system searches system speed dial (1000)
and all personal speed dial first reguardless if telco sends name or not.
TA-- I don't think so.
Vodavi STS. - 200 nnumber - name translation table.

Ok, so to recap so far.

Nortel Norstar has one for 255 numbers

The Panasonic kxtd has 500.

Vodavi STS. - 200

TDA has 1,000 from the speedial

The Samsung iDCS 500 L-version software has 1,500 and I believe the release #2 has 2,000.

I wonder what the limit is for this? It would be nice if they just made a 15,000 table and let you all all the numbers you wanted.

Anyway, I am glad it has this feature. Please let me know if you know of any other phone system that have it or don't have it.

I don't think any Nitsuko phone has the ability to add even 1 name.

p.s. Has anyone ever tried that TAPI software solution. It looks kind of complicated.

Are we talking about when a customer calls you and it displays a name for them and not about adding names to extensions on your system?
