I had some questions about the merlin plus system which I cant seem to find answeres for, so I thought I would try my luck here.

Does anyone know the difference between the 820d and the 820d2 and what are the differences between release 1 vs release 2. Also is there any advantage to one unit over another. Thanks!!

Not sure about the 820d2, but have worked on plenty plain 820's and some 820d's. The original 820 did not use plug in boards like the 820d. The 820 used feature cartridges type 1 for things like full duplex speakerphone and system speed dial, feature cartridge type 2 was for audio options like MOH and backgrond music through the set speakers. The 820d which was in an different type cabinet gave you options like busy buster and DISA
or direct inward system access.

Yah I'm very familiar with the classic 820. Do you know about any difference between the release levels 1 and 2? Thanks.

in the classic 820 the docs show only use a feature package 2
in the merlin plus 820d vs 820d2 the biggest
difference is the busy buster and disa
but they also use 2 station ports on your 1st
station board and i have never seen a customer that wanted to lose 2 station ports for these features
the 820d2 was the last version sold

It looks like the R2.0 had automatic system answer and direct extension dialing, R1.0 did not have these features. It also appears that entering system programming was different for both releases. You can go to Avaya's web site and do a search for Merlin Plus and download the system manual for both versions.

The difference between the 820d and the 820d2 is not much. Two neat features where the auto forward feature. This was popular with doctors offices.

It would play, Please hold Your call is being forwarded. Then it also offers the Busy buster feature which I liked the most. To use these features the memorory mod on top of the unit has a ASA jack and A busy buster jack. They typically work directly jumped off of these jacks to ex.18 and 19 as I remember. Additional programing is needed for the BB and ASA to work. Nice machines compact and reliable. The memeory batt is a
litle bit odd you needed a tiny torx wrench to change the thing.
