I'm having a problem renumbering an extension. I using the console phone to do the renumbering. I goto SysRenumber->Single->Extenstion->Old Extension->New Extension.... But when I enter the new extension, the system beeps, and prompts me for a new extension. I have been using an extension that isn't assigned to any physical line, and was able to perform this task numerous times before. However, this time it doesn't seem to be working. I've also tried using extension between 7100-7300, with the same result. The system that we have is a merlin magix R2.0

The number you're trying to change the phone is already in use *somewhere* - could be a phone, an adjunct, a line, a park code, a calling group, most anything.

If you will do a "print" of your "dial plan", you might spot the conflict. If you're an experienced technician, and can go into the "monitor" mode, use the "locate" command. Once you find the conflict, renumber the offending conflict, and then you will be able to renumber your extension.

I also am having a problem renumbering an extension on a system I just installed. Maybe someone can shed some light on this. I am pretty much using the default 2 digit numbering for then extensions and when I try to renumber IE ext 14 to 80 it beeps. I threw together another system and defaulted it also to mirror the other one and I found that if I keep the 2 digit extensions, I get an error trying to renumber, but if I default number it to 3 digits (starting at 100) I can renumber the extensions no problem. Is it possible to renumber a 2 digit system?

Nilee, I don't know that you are seeing when you say you get "F2 Denied in the output file"

And for Normand Daoust, you have a conflict with your lines, being 801, 802, etc., when you try to change an extension to 80. Read the manual about dial plans, and see why putting the system in "Set-Up Space" gives you the most flexibility.

Touch Tone Tommy, Thanks, I took a closer look at the various Numbering schemes and now see why I couldn't renumber the lines. With the 2 digit numbering I can only use a few areas to renumber to. I wanted to keep the same extension numbers as their old system, so I kept the 2 digit numbering instead of the 3 digit that I'm use to. I needed to move the the extension for the system programming position and could fine a temp number to do it. I even set up a second system at home to figure out what was up.

I figured out what the issue was. The 709 Extension was already assigned to a phone (by someone other than me). I had another extension that wasn't assigned to anywhere and used that to switch the other two extensions. Besides that, I'm still unable to figure out why I'm not able to use extension outside of the extension range (7100-7300) as I've seen mentioned before, to renumber extensions.
