I'm seriously interested in playing around with this system and learning it.....

Do I have to be a certified dealer in order to purchase the system????

If I do, is it worth the time and effort to get involved with it????

You don't have to be a dealer but it can only be purchased from a dealer.
The true question still remains if it is worth it? I would say yes if you want to keep up with the rest of the real installers. I am not a fan of the IP Office (has to many damn problems) but it is a something I had to learn and still learning.

As much as I hate it I wouldn't mind playing with it also.

Hopefully the IP Office isn't in a critical use role. They are way too unstable. The one I've had to deal with is in a confinement situation. Hell of a way to run a prison --- no phones!

The IP Office has been plaqued by too many bugs and software has been consistently released to soon, to the point that when 3.0 was officially released for about the 3rd or 4th time the confidential release also stated that unless your customers needed to use any of the enhancements please don't upgrade them.

I found IP Office to be very expensive, every application requires an additional "server" and if you get into a complete VoIP solution the licensing is also very expensive. The killer is also that to become certified on IP Office we had to invest in an extremely expensive demo unit including their CCC package which was about when we said enough.
