Well, I suppose that could be explained by "they".
They went thru a great deal of trouble to make sure I have station 10 at my desk.
If that is true "they" didn't go through enough trouble to understand what they were doing. Sounds like there is IT involvement here.

ok, so I am now even more confused. A printed label on my phone says it is ext 10. When I get a call the front desk transfers to ext 10. When I pick up the phone everyones "10" lights up. When Jim (x14) gets a message - my light comes on! When I use "feature 00 the display says I am programming ext 14. So, does this mean that every phone in the place is labeled 10 when it is actually 14?
If it was working "Just Fine" - why did you try to fix it?

The programing of a phones buttons do not follow the phone when it is moved to new location. It sounds like your dss buttons need to be reset. Do as Paul suggests and download user and install from Avaya site.

When I get a call the front desk transfers to ext 10. then ext 10 has been forwarded to 14 So, does this mean that every phone in the place is labeled 10 when it is actually 14? sounds that way . it would be a quick /easy job for a tech to straighten it out for you

A printed label on my phone says it is ext 10.
Don't believe everything you read.
When I get a call the front desk transfers to ext 10. When I pick up the phone everyones "10" lights up.
Don't believe everything you see.
When Jim (x14) gets a message - my light comes on! When I use "feature 00 the display says I am programming ext 14.
Now there is something you can believe.
So, does this mean that every phone in the place is labeled 10 when it is actually 14?
If you haven't already figured it out, phones could be labeled anything most likely because the get moved around. Intercom autodial/DSS buttons get programmed incorrectly also.
Jim thinks he is 14 so he put his personal greeting on your mailbox by entering 14 from his extension. If you are at your desk, get into the habit of pressing # when you log into your voicemail instead of your extension number. That way you will be sure of getting the mailbox associated with that extension, not somebody elses. If everybody did that when they set up their mailboxes you would know right away that your extension was labeled incorrectly or your extension was not what you were told.

It may help to know that the "intelligence" for the extension lies in the physical port that the phone is plugged into...not in the phone itself. If you were to unplug a neighbor's 18D and slide your set in it's place, your 34D would then inherit the programming that your neighbor's phone originally had. Does that make sense?
That's why Hal pointed out that a person who moves desks AND keeps the original extension must have also had some wire work done.
If you're unsure what your extension number is, there's a couple of ways to find out. An easy way is to call one of your co-workers that has a display phone; your extension number will appear on their display. If you're feeling a little braver, touch your [FEATURE] button and then dial 00 (that's zero zero); your extension number will show up on your own display. Touch [FEATURE] and dial 00 again to "get out of it" or simply lift the handset and hang it up.
And welcome to the board!

OK, I have finally got a basic idea of what is going on. I am at Ext 14 because that is what my phone says it is on the display. I was told I was extension 10. I printed 1000 business cards with x10 on it. When I get a call the front desk transfers to the button with my name and a 10 under it and my phone rings. That is what counts. If I suggest that there is a problem there we may discover that there are even more names assigned to incorrectly labeled numbers but the programmed number in the speed dial memory is correct. After all - "If it ain't broke - don't fix it!" We know for sure that mine and Jim's are messed up.
From some things I have read there are some special properties about extension 10. Is it best to leave things as they are or switch ports so everything is correct. In other words - is there a particular reason to leave extension 10 at the front desk with Jim? If not - I could look into swapping ports in the terminal room and reprogram the buttons for Jim and I on all phones. On the other hand - I could have everyone correct the number printed on their speed dial overlay and toss those business cards and put the correct number.
You guys have done well. Over time I will learn more about this system. Perhaps I will be able to help someone else out - the way you have helped me.
Thanks guys!
If it was working "Just Fine" - why did you try to fix it?

is there a particular reason to leave extension 10 at the front desk with Jim?
Do you have a voice messaging system and do you use it to answer and transfer calls instead of a person?
Yes, extension 10 does have a "special function". It is supposed to be for the receptionist. I imagine that is why 10 is at the front desk.
Extension 10 is the only extension that can have a "night service" button. That button, will change the messaging system day AA menu to the night menu. It also can change how many rings it takes for the AA to pick up as well as extension ringing if set up that way. Normally the receptionist will put the system on night service before leaving at night and turn off night service upon arriving in the morning.
Extension 10 is normally the extension a voice messaging will send callers to who don't know who they want to talk to. So the extension 10 mailbox will have a lot of "general" messages in it. That is why the VM greeting for 10 should not be someones personal greeting but rather that of a receptionist. Apparently now those people are getting Jim. Is that what you want?
Extensions 10 and 11 are also used for system programming.
When I find systems screwed up like your is I always straighten everything out.
