so i have the legend here, and i found a modem card and put it in the computer.
hooked a the modem to the 012 card slot shown in the manual and fired up SPM.
the modem dials *10 and the legend puts out the tone, but then nothing happens after that. the legend discontinues the tone after about 5 seconds and SPM errors out saying "carrier not found"
any ideas ?
the legend isn't hooked up to anything else, just powered on.

If you are on site with the system, why not go in the admin port?? Oh, and read the manual.

well my idea was just to dial from the pc to the legend.
legend isn't hooked up to ANYTHING. just sitting here powered on. i hear the modem dial *10 and the legend gives the tone, but there's no handshake.
and i can't hook up to the admin port without the ATT355AF or that MAGIX module to use the network. i don't have either thing.
i'm just wondering what's not working with the modem here. i don't see why you couldn't do it that way. although i haven't used a modem in, what, 6 years. could be the modem not working.

Okay, so the legend is not in use? Does the shelf have a processor card in it? If not it is a extended chassis. If it does, what is the processor version? The modem resides on the processor board. Dialing *10 from an extension port will work as long as the modem on the processor is good. Also the extension port you are plugging into has to have it set to pick up a inside tone and not a co port. Does not matter if there is no dial tone hooked to a co port. If the extension port you are plugged into is set to auto pick a line, you cannot dial in this way. The extension port must pick a system access. Try a different analog port. Or program the port with a MLX-20L set for auto select SA. You can make a adapter cable for the admin port real easy. It will not have all of the protection a 355 will have, but works. Just have to get it right to avoid blowing out your serial port on your laptop. I built one from the pinout off a post here a few years back. Has worked great ever since.
