To place a call on a analog extension on hold we have just been hitting the Flash key on the phone.
This seems to work fine. Call is placed on hold, phone goes back to the system tone. However when we hang up the extension, it rings back with the on-hold call!
Is there anyway to disable this behavoir?
Ideally we want the phone to just put the caller on hold and not ring back once we hang up the phone.
We don't want the ring-back!

Use an analog phone where the hold button is a feature of the phone. My panasonic cordless has a hold button that is independant of the system.

Avaya has a single line phone with hold, 2500YMGM, I think thats the number, also you could try call park instead of hold but I think that has a time limit on it 2or 3 minutes.

Flash, and then dial YOUR OWN extension number. Then hang up. The call will hold a couple of minutes before ringing back. If you want to retreive the call, dial 6 and your extension number (your single line phones get Intercom first, right?). From a multiline set, press Intercom, dial 6 and the extension number that placed the call on hold.
The problem with the built in hold button on a single line phone is ONLY the phone that pressed hold can get the call back. The call is being held by a circuit inside of the telephone set, so the system just sees the call as still active.
