Hi folks,
We've just been asked by a data customer to take care of wiring his voice system since his telecom vendor seems to have taken a powder. Its a simple job, but I figured it wouldnt hurt to pass this by the gurus.
Its an AT&T Partner system. Three lines, four extensions.
Line Connections ---------------- There's a 66 block waiting with his POTS lines on it, so we'll just punch on one end and crimp RJ-11 connectors on the other to connect to the Partner line jacks. The telco is handing us one pair per line, so we'll just use the middle pair of connectors on the RJ-11 mod plugs. Is this OK?
Extension Connections ---------------------- There's a 66 block on the wall with cat-5 runs back to dual voice jacks (4 wires on each jack). We'll use more cat-5 to get to the Partner extension jacks, giving us two extensions per cable. We can punch down at the 66 block to match the colors coming from the jacks, but how are we crimping the RJ-11 mod plugs on the other end of the wire? Are we just going straight through?
Any feedback from the pros would be MOST appreciated!
Thanks.

Yes it will be straight through. Keep in mind the partner uses 2 pair per extention. Inside pr. dial tone or antilog / outside is digital or the advanced features of the phone.
If wired on an 568b conf. you would use the w/b and b/w for the pins 4 and 5 and w/g and g/w for pins 3 and 6.
Hope this helps, Mike

Cool beans. Actually, I have to look at the color sequence at the existing handset jacks, but I suspect that it matches what we see at the 66 block:
jack A ------------- wbl blw wo ow
jack B ------------- wg gw wbr brw
So we'll just follow-through to the RJ-11 mod plugs with:
plug A ------------- wbl blw wo ow
plug B ------------- wg gw wbr brw
Thanks for the feedback!

Try using a Systimax 700A4 plug instead of RJ-11, I think you'll find it better than the 11 plug. Yes a little more expensive but well worth the extra $. Can get them at Avon Datacom in Hicksville 516-393-2550 Ext 100 (Geo) or Graybar. Good Luck
