We are installing a Magix system at a customers site, i have worked on Legend systems before, but always programmed thru the main phone. I'm thinking about just purchasing the WINSPM and the Windows messaging interface. Are these worth paying for and are they easier to use than via the phone. If it saves time, then it is worth it to buy it.

Thanks for all the info.

Personally I would stick with the phone. the software is a picture of the phone. so basically everything would be the same except now you are on a laptop. sorta silly.
The Vmail is internet driven. however you will need a laptop to setup IP info.

Yeah, but the reports that you can get through SPM are invaluable in troubleshooting programming issues.

And you can do remote programming as well.

That said, I use a Hewlett Packard HP-200-LX palmtop computer. It's the size of a checkbook, runs DOS, and the older DOS based SPM. The programming menus are generated by the switch, not SPM, so I can program ANY Legend or Magix system with it. Running on 2 AA batteries, I can whip in, grab reports, do programming, and never have to set up the laptop or wait for it to boot.

Oh, and I like the Voice Mail GUI, which only runs under windows, and you can just set your laptop's IP to use the default IP in the messaging.

The WINSPM is a awesome tool for reporting and error/fault finding. The GUI is simply an emulation of the phone, that's it.

You will also need a special cable DB9 to RJ45 to communicate with the Laptop/System.

I would agree about using a laptop for programming. I feel lost if I have to use the phone. For vmail, You can set up a companies mailboxs in a 1/4 the time.
