Try pressing the Mic (HFAI) when it is idel and see if it stays on.

That was it. I finally got them set up. It's a pretty easy system to work on compared to what I'm used to once you get the basics down. Thanks for all the help.

I've been all through this manual and can't seem to make the microphone come on automatically ...
You can only have that with HFAI sets which will have the HFAI button.
It's a pretty easy system to work on...
A bit cumbersome and actually what the Partner is based and improves on.

Is there a way to turn up the handset volume on this system? All the users are having trouble understanding callers when using the handset.
Perhaps there is a better manual than the one I downloaded, but I can find nothing to reference this.
Thanks

There is an amplified handset available that has a volume control on it.

No those sets were manufactured b4 2000 law requiring vol control on set .
As ttech said you use a vol control handset . they are around @ $35=54 some even have push to talk or mute along with anplifier.
Call sundance listed in equipment above If they dont have them post back and i will email you a source
PS with the mic turned on you can use the merlin as a poor mans paging system, to a quiet area you can call the set and get talk back

Is there a way to set the default line? Right now when they pick up a handset, it reaches for the 4th button down on the left side, which is a CO line. The 5th button down is Intercom and I'd like to make it default there. As it is, if they pick up the phone and hit a speed dial, they end up transferring a dialtone to the person they're calling.
Thanks again. how do you do this on a merlin legend with mlx's ?
