Good morning everyone. I was just wondering if any of you guys have every work with a APC SMART UPS 2200? I want to test this unit to verify that it is doing it job. My switch is connected to it, but if there is a power serge the switch will drop. I am looking threw the APC website, but havnt found any information on how to test the unit. I remeber from one of my old jobs, i was able to test older versions of these UPS units. Thank you!!!

I use one of these as a backup for my sump pump and I test it all the time by just hitting the test button periodically. I also installed the power chute software and connected the system to a computer. It has really good diagnostic tools there, including bar graphs, exercise routines, advanced diagnostics, etc. You don't have to keep the computer connected.
If you don't have the cable and software, there is a bunch of it available on e-bay all the time and it's cheap.

Just pull the power cord from the wall outlet . If your system loses power then the UPS needs to be repaired/replaced .

That system is constantly converting AC to DC then back to AC. It's essentially running on backup all the time, just not using the batteries for power. It sounds to me like your battery packs are either not connected (they are not connected at the factory; you must connect them when the unit is set up) or they are dead.
Is this a new backup? Do you know if the battery packs got connected when it was installed? I think you will be surprised. I encounter APC's all the time that don't have the battery pack(s) connected.
