Never heard it was a problem to put a RJ11 plug in a RJ45 jack. Can anyone provide any documentation that says not to do this?

i don't know about documentation (experience), but putting rj-11s into rj-45 will give you fits.

And no its not a problem plugging in rj11 to rj45. The problem is when you unplug your rj11. Look inside the rj45 jack and you will see the left and right outter pins are pushed way up inside and unable to make contact when plugging in a rj45 cable
