I'm the only IT guy for a corporation with about 100 PC clients, nothing huge, but it's spread in 4 locations and one overseas so overall it can get quite busy.

I have no problem dealing with computer issues from replacign to toners to working on our Cisco gear, but I Just have to admit to being absolutely annoyed by phone systems, I can't stand them and they feel the same about me!! smile (due to my very limited exposure to phone systems).

I have inherited a merlin-legend system over here and while I'm able to setup new people, new extensions etc... I'm running into a problem with dial out restriction codes.

How do I change them?

I suppose first I'd like to ask, how exactly do they work? If I understand it correctly this dial out code cannot be assigned to a phone extension, but basically you create the code and then restrict as many phones as you want which forces people using those phones to use any of the dial out codes that they know (if any).

is that correct? It seems strange to me that I cannot place a special code on an extension

In any case, how would I go about changing them?

to my knowledge it is a merlin legend system with a voicemail option as well. We have an avaya contract, but they tend to dial in, fix stuff and aren't always willing to tell me what they did so I'd like to attempt it on my own if possible just to learn a bit more about the system.

I know there's a simple way to tell what version of merlin system this is right from the phone, but for the life of me I can't remember the key combo that shows it

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

From a MLX-20L (plugged into a system programming port) press:
Menu
Maintenance
System
Inventory
Slot 00 is your processor

Dial *05 while off hook on an SA button.

Download the manuals from the Avaya support site.

Do a bunch of woodsheding with them, or hire a local installer to make the changes for you, but explain to you what he is doing, so you will know for future reference. It will truely be money well spent!!

I have this, but how does it connect to the system?

Currently we have a terminal that interfaces both with the Audix voicemail and the phone system itself , I also have an OLD DOS version of the SPM software that I dial out with to our remote site that shares our phone system.

but how would I got about connecting to our phone system that is in the building I am in?

I'd love to install the win version of it.
