I'm an IT guy who has taken over the responsibility of the telephones systems.......... Just kidding Hal. I have a friend who called asking about a cordless for a Partner system and since I'm a Nortel guy and 200 miles away I need some advice. What type do you recommend? An analog or digital? Is programming difficult ( since I don't see any installers in his area Douglas, Ga. he would have to do it himself) Are the digital cordless specific to different SW releases? Let me know what information he needs to provide and I'll call him back. Thanks

The current cordless phones for the Partner are the 9040 and 3910. You have a PM.

Avaya has what is called a transtalk.
The 9040 and the 3910 are the two we have used over the years. 9040 had some good features, but just don't hold up well.
3910 which is taking the place of the 9040 seems to hold up pretty well but the range is like 150 feet and it will only show two lines on the handset.
We use the EnGenius Dura phone on Partners a lot. They have great range and hold up well, but they are a single line devise and naturaly CID don't show.
Hope this helps,

The 9040 which was the flagship Avaya cordless is pretty much a non-issue. The problem that did it in is interference from other 900Mhz devices making it unuseable in many installations. Beyond that it's always had problems with durability and cost. The older 9031 also is affected to a slightly lesser extent.
So, your choices at the moment are the 9310, if you can deal with only two line appearances and short range, or your choice of any single line cordless with it's call handling problems on a multi-line system.
I have not heard officially that the 9040 has been discontinued but the word is that it has. My distributor discourages sales and we won't sell them. I think if you hang in there for a few months Avaya is going to have a replacement for the 9040 that may actually address these problems.
