We've had it for a year or two. Some days it works great but when it doesn't work well, it is usually in the middle of a really important call. So I don't use it as much as I hoped to. We have it on cable.

Ditto!

On a GOOD day, Vonage sounds like Norstar.
During an outage, it sounds like Vodavi. [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]

You're right NFC. I'm sure the Vodavi is a fine system. I KNOW the Norstar is. smile

I was just trying to figure out where Ed's Norstar crack came from.

Hasn't anyone ever noticed how "tinny" voices sound to callers who receive a call from someone with a Norstar? A lot of media outlets around here, TV and radio especially use Norstars and when they are interviewing people and playing it on the air, the caller's voice just sounds crappy. I am sure it has to do with Norstar's samlpling rate. If it's not 64K or better (I think Norstar is only 32K), the digitized voices are going to sound tinny when converted back to analog.

That's where my crack came from. Just an observation, but I can't possibly believe that I am the only person out there who's ever wondered about this.

It's funny you should mention that about the radio & TV stations. Several years back we had complaints from a couple of stations in East Texas about that very thing. They had tried a few rather expensive interfaces to fix the problem but ended up with differential ground problems. We finally ended up building an interface out of an audio transformer and a non-ploarized capacitor which solved the problem. $5.00 worth of parts on a very expensive phone system.
