Hi all!

Are there any phones that can be used with the merlin 410 that have caller ID displays? How about an option (plug in?) that will allow me to use a fax machine without tying up a voice terminal?

Thanks again!

How about replacing it with a more recent system?

Hi Sk8t4u,
The Merlin 410 was discontinued before caller ID was invented, so it's just not supported. Nor is there a viable analog adapter that would allow the fax to work. Even if there was, it can be a challenge to support inbound faxes thru the system. Most vendors will recommend either a dedicated fax line or using your local phone company's "distinctive ring" service and a magic box for painless inbound.

Hi all...

Thanks for the info...I know that this is an old system, and I would never use this in my business, but I do have a thing for old technology (I have an old pre-WWII radio that I listen to in my office, and my c-64 still has the falling snowflake sprites falling on my credenza!). Even though I use state of the art computers and what not, I like to keep some of the old stuff working. I remember when the Merlin first came out in the 80's, and cost thousands. I picked this thing up on e-bay for $15.00 and paid way more for shiping. I am going to use it in my home!

Thank You all again!

for a fax you can try to locate a Merlin PFC , ( merlin phone & fax/copier combined )it will work on your 410 if you have feature modlue 2, it will also take up 2 station ports 1 for phone ,1 for fax /copier, it uses 1" roll paper, as for caller ID run your lines to caller ID box out side your phone system , this way you can use the old stuff

I have a Merlin PFC just removed from service yesterday. I had heard of these things but until I actually saw one, a BIS 34 button phone built into a fax and copier, I never would have believed it. Pretty cool. SK84U, if you are interested, send me a PM or e-mail and maybe we can work something out. Something tells me that this thing will be hot on e-bay as a collectible, so let me know soon before I list it.

I've seen a few pictures of the PFC. It probably wasn't a big seller. I remember reading that you could not fax and talk at the same time. It was an either/or device.

I installed and maintain a Partner ACS @ my church. The church's old phone system was a Merlin 410 paralleled with an old Stomberg key system. I ripped out the Stromberg, purchased a few additional desk sets for the Merlin, ran new wires, installed new jacks and now have the 410 on standby should something go wrong with the ACS.

Skate:

You could try and locate a BTMI-2 for hooking up the fax machine to the KSU. The port is programmed how you would like via a VT connected to the port first, then replace with the BTMI-2. The fax hooks into the BTMI-2. Dial 9 to get 1st outside line in your Auto Line Select sequence.

Hi cvr,

I'm going to try to locate the document that said that the PFC could not allow people to fax and talk at the same time and see if I can get it corrected.
