Hi all,

I can't seem to locate this in the manuals but I was recently asked a question about a Merlin Magix r3 system with Merlin Messaging r4.

This question was - can extensions be set up to have a different ring for the calling party to hear if the extension is in use? This was asked by a person who acts as a receptionist who doesn't always happen to be at the console with the DSS. She would like to be able to tell by the ring that the person is already on the phone so she doesn't have to wait 4 ringe before deciding to send the caller to VM.

Thanks in advance for any yea or nay!

J..

There is no programming that will commodate that. You can change the ring pattern, but that's about it. Since the call is always going somewhere in the Magix, it will never give you a "busy" indication. What you can do is set up the intercom & auto intercom buttons for voice announce - when the extension is on hook you can voice announce, but when off hook you hear ringing instead. There is the indication that the caller is on the phone. If you're using MLX phones, be sure to disable the "voice announce on idle only" feature for those phones.(*130)

Don't think I am understanding your question. Where do the 4 rings come from? If an extension is busy it should cover to its mailbox right away after transfer without receptionist intervention.

Are the 4 rings the delay before the AA picks up the line?

Since a Magix phone has multiple SA buttons, it can receive calls while it is already on another call.

If you use SA-Voice, set the extensions for Voice Announce on Idle Only, then if the voice announce goes through, you know the extension is idle, if it rings, you know the extension is already engaged.
