I know there are some bugs with the 7.0 acs and 5.0 vs. But when i pull out the customers current 3.0 processor, install the 7.0 the voicemail will not even power on. I get 1 red blink about 30 seconds after power on. I moved the voicemail to another slot, still nothing and on top of that any card to the right of the voicemail will not power on. other 3 cards are 308's. Current config, slot 1,2,4 are 308 cards. slot 3 3.0 processor, slot 5 partner mail 5.0. make slot 3 a 7.0, voicemail no longer powers on, I can hear it, but no lites, other than the one red blink. All other cards will work to the left of it. move it to slot 1 then slot 2,4,5 will no longer work and etc. the processor always works regardless.

Hmmm what happens if you put the R3 back in? The VS should work fine with the 7, it sounds like the VS took a dump. Blinking red light isn't good. Hal is yawning because he has said stay away from the R7 many a time And he is correct. I've been told that the R7's have been fixed and will have a green tag sticker on them so if you have to install a 7 be sure the green sticker is there.

no I have not. I was wondering about that, sorta why I asked here. figured someone might have had the same problem rather than yawning at me. spoke with Celestica, said upgrading the VM to the latest revision on the 5.0 to 21 would solve the privacy and DND issues. but said that it had nothing to do with powering it up. suppose I shall try the new carrier. Didn't bother talking with Avaya, their solution is always upgrade everything to the latest.

Never heard of anybody speaking with Celestica. Who are they? I have heard that they manufacture for Avaya, that's about it. Where the heck are they and why would they want to talk to you as an Avaya customer or dealer?

Off the top of my head,.........I can think of 5 or 6 customers we have that is running R.7 with Partner Mail VS R.5 with no problems.

I have had a number of 7.0 processers that fail to hold memory. It has come to the point that I have asked suppliers to test before ashipping and have not found any supplier that has tested them and they have passed. Avaya has a serious problem that they are adressing with a "soft-ware" patch. I don't trust it. When you have a processor that only loses some programming after a power down a power up, I find it hard to believe that a soft-ware patch can fix it. It reminds me of the cordless phone fiasco with the partner system when Avaya said "we have s soft-ware fix, don't worry" and then discontinued the phone.

The R7 software patch actually resolves the memory problem - why that's not a hardware fix, I don't know.
However, it also prevents barging into a station without privacy - you have to dial Intercom-6-8-Line Number to get in. If you have privacy assigned, you are truely private.
As to why the R5 VM won't power up, I don't know. There are no power incompatabilities. I would start with just the ACS and the VM in slot 1, to see if it comes up there.
