Hey everyone,

I am trying to get my desktop to connect to our PBX using a modem. I have run a wire from the PBX to my modem in the computer, and currently have it connected to a port on an 012 module. I have the modem set up as an internal connection, so it dials *10 (as an aside, if i stick a normal house phone into that port and dial the same thing, I hear a modem handshake). However, when the computer does it, (I hear some stuff going on with the modems), I get a "Call disconnected (no answer by remote)", and then "line is idle" message, and it tries again.

I don't know if I maybe have the wrong module or what. I have connected directly, but would prefer to do it from my office instead of out where the PBX is located (it is much more comfortable in my office, plus no loud bangs from the manufacturing floor).

Make sure all of your modem setting are correct. If the speed or something is set wrong it will cause these issues. The settings should be 9600, 8, N,1.

The help said 2400 baud. I will try it at 9600 and see if that fixes it.

The settings I have are:
General tab
Nothing checked in the Call Preferences.
Cancel the call if not connected within 60 secs

Data connection Preferences
Port speed 2400 (I also tried 9600)
Data Protocol Disabled
Compression Disabled
Flow Control None

Advanced Tab
Nothing checked in the Terminal Windows
Hardware settings
Data bits 8
parity None
Stop Bits 1
Modulation Standard.

The Settings (except for the speed), match what Glacier said (for the ones he said). I tried it at 9600, and there was no change in the behavior.
The settings I tried to begin with are the ones from winSPM's help file.

Any other Ideas?

2400 is right, I was thinking about the Definity settings. Let me see what else I can find.

Whats the distance from your office to the phone room.

The reason I ask is.........why not connect directly to the admin port on the Magix just like you do when your in the phone room from your desktop.

You will need a dedicated cable drop between the phone room and your office.

What is the release of your Magix and your WinSPM?

R3 Magix needs R9 WinSPM for sucessful modem connections.

Just a maybe....patch up your WinSPM if not R9 anyway.

@mdaniel - we thought of that. I am not sure exactly what the distance is, so I will have to try it and see if it works. I wouldn't be surprized if the cable runs 1000 feet to the phone switch.

@Touch Tone Tommy - I did patch to version 9 of WinSPM and it didn't help. Also, how do I find out what release I have of Magix (and if it is magix compared to Legend)?

Thanks,

Dial *05 at a display station to find the release.

This will sound dumb, but is the line cord to the modem plugged into the "phone" jack instead of tHe "wall" or "line" jack? That would give you the disconnect.

No, I checked it already. It is plugged into the "line", the other port has a picture of a telephone handset.

It appears that I have a Legend 7.0 V10.0. Does that make any difference?
