We have a PARTNER II system that is sporadically doing something strange.

A new call will come in, from the outside, and within 5 seconds after it's answered, line 2 or 3 will start ringing. The operator put the first line 1 on hold and answers the line that's ringing.
The calling party will be the person that she just put on hold!
This happens maybe twice a day so it has been difficult to capture other variables, such as any other lines in use, time of day, etc.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

This would take some troubleshooting while acting up to be 100% sure.
Does it only happen on ext 10? Have you switched phones to rule that out?
I would bet you have a 206 card going bad.

I'm willing to bet that it's a service provider problem. Hang some single line phones off the COs and watch what happens.

If you want to rule out the system the easy way swap out the suspected 206 and then the processor temporarily. Sit back and see what the customer reports.

I too would have to suspect the LEC.
How are these lines coming in?
Is the operator the only set that rings?
I would set up ringing on another extension for a week or so and see what happens.
" The calling party will be the person that she just put on hold!
what happens if she puts that call on hold and goes back to the original?
