I really like the Panasonic systems myself. NO SIP though on the small key systems. If you are looking price look at the Sprint K3 or Tadiran ICE.

I am using a Norstar CICS in my house with t-7316 phones. Works great with caller ID and all.

Wrichey, I looked at the Samsung iDCS 100.
Do they have caller ID on the analog devices such as caller ID box or only the "idcs 16" or "idcs 100"?
I did not know they had call Logs on the smaller systems, I thought this was only the idcs 500?
So if I understand what your saying, the idcs 100 has:
1. 2-way intercom speaker when a room is called. So you instantaneously have a 2-way channel of communications when you call a room 2. Call Logs(50 per phone or per system?) 3. CID to analog extensions? Do you know if I need the Release 1 or release 2 for these features? Do you know if there is a particular software version needed? M or L version software, etc...? Thanks for the infomation Wrichey, I will maybe considering the idcs 100 now that you told me it has those features but I would need to know exactly which model has these features.
So MacGyver, the Inter-tel charges you a lease AND tries to charge you a license fee for each phone! OMG. That is very scary to me, so the older ones are OK but stay away from the new ones? Which system are recommending?
hbiss, to answer your question. I got the idea of a leased system from Inter-tel brochure. They are seriously pushing people into a lease. I was looking at Asterisks from a few articles I saw in some magazines. So far, it does not look good since the phones don't have universal keys. Most houses around my area have PBX systems used mostly as communication from room-to-room and home offices.
I don't want to memorize all the extensions so I would like 1 button assign to call each room. Asterisks seem like they can't even provide that.
Can anyone tell me if I'm right about the Panasonic Intercom requiring you to physically pickup an intercom call instead of an automatic 2-way speaker when a room is called like on the Samsung and Nitsuko?
Coral Tech, Does the Tadiran ICE have 1. 2-way speak intercom connection? 2. Call Logs on the phone? 3. CID to analog extensions? 4. CID Name and number dispaly? 5. CID routing?

Yup, installed more than a few including several rich and famous whose names I won't drop.
We are an Avaya dealer but again, your wants can be handled by many if not most systems. (Partner will do everything except CID routing.)
Most important thing, even more than the system itself, is who you buy it from and what kind of support they offer.

The IP phone system are never used for a house they are more for networking remote offices?
The house is on a mountain with levels. Intercom system is needed. In many houses i've seen, the system allows you to call each room and have put you on a 2-way speaker phone with requiring the other person to answer.
The Panasonic seem like it has a bad method of intercom because the other user must first answer the phone before a conversation can start. They should give you both options and lets the buyer decide.
I may be in the room but I might be watching TV and too lazy to run across the room to the phone or working on my car. The kids may be running around downstars and I want to tell them to be quiet. Its really need to be an automatic speaker intercom phone like with Samsung/Nitsuko method.
Other system can't provide caller ID information to your caller ID(analog device) and/or do not have calls logs on the phone.
So basically there is no way to keep track of who called you except maybe an extensive SMDR software and a dedicated server which is overkill.
Just curious why the IP phone system is such a bad idea? I have not really seen any offices that use them.

They are not a bad idea- if you are a computer geek. It's a disruptive technology but that's another story.

You seem to be making a big deal out of this like it's something special. Hands Free Answer on Intercom (what Avaya calls it) is a BASIC FEATURE on just about ALL systems. So basic that it's probably not even mentioned.

What the kind of analog device are you planning on using? Answer is simple, there is no need to use them. All phones should be system phones with displays.
Like I said you need to talk to dealers in your area and get advice.
Or are you planning to purchase this on the internet?

Panasonic, which probably has the largest market of home phone system does not have this basic 2-way automatic intercom feature (correct me if I’m wrong) .
Here I'm thinking they are tailored made for home use and this feature is lacking. The Panasonic require the person must pickup for the 2-way conversation. So why should I assume that all phone system automatically have this simple feature if not even Panasonic has it.
Caller ID for analog devices is needed for my regular caller ID. Do all phone systems allow you to keep call Logs?.
I also might want cordless phone if I'm outside or walking around. I also need an analog line going into my fax server which application software needs to see Caller ID in order to index the faxes correctly. Most modern day system do have this(Nitsuko,NEC Aspire,DS1000/2000,Spint Flexicom, any new ESI system,Vodavi XTS & XTSc with SLIB card,Panasonic KX-TD super hybrid systems,Samsung R2 models/idcs 16,Tadiran,Comdial FXII,etc....)
Anyway, my point is many things you assume are included in the phone system are actually not. That is why its better to have all information before you make a costly mistake.
