I sold some old used Spirit phone sets to a lady and thought everything was fine. I has had about 20 bases... the gray bottoms that allow you to wall mount a Spirit set by reversing it, or just leave the base on and raise it an inch.

She called me today and said the piece I was talking about is the "stand", and the word "base" referrs to the bottom half of the phone casing it self.

I was taught in AT&T sales school in the Partner days that the plastic reversable attachment to allow wall mounting was called the "base."

She wants me to pull apart 20 spirit sets, and send in the bottom half of the phone before she will pay me.

Is the bottom half of the phone called a "base" and the extra part to desk or wall mount the phone called a "stand" like she said, or was my AT&T training correct?

The bottom half is called the lower housing.

You are correct

also on page 14 of the maunal

I think this qoute from the manual speaks for itself.

To mount a SPIRIT telephone set on the wall, remove the set base by pushing in on the center
at the top of the base and pulling the base away from the telephone. Install the base on a
630B Wall Telephone Modular Connecting Block. Plug one end of the telephone cord into the
wall connecting block. Wrap surplus cord around the tabs on the base (see picture on left).
Plug the other end of the telephone cord into the jack on the back of the telephone set. Insert the
top tab of the base into the slot at the top of the set. With one hand, push up on the center of the
bottom of the base. Swing the set into position and lock into place

This lady bought off a list of old stuff I had in the warehouse. I put I had X number of Spirit 6 button white sets, and 20 extra bases. She then cooridinated with a refurbisher in another state. She was going to buy them from me, have the refurbisher fix them, ship it to her for her use to sell or whatever.

The refurbisher saw the list, told her what it would cost to fix, she then derived a price to give me.

Now it is the refurbisher that is telling her that I sent the stands, not the bases. So she is telling me she can not pay me what she thought she could. She is in the middle, but with the quote from above right out of the manual she can now go to the refurbisher and say, wrongo, you got what was advertised, now pay up.

That is the complete story... sort of weird. Why they want just the bottom casing who knows... just for parts I guess.

here is the latest.
Just got a call they are shipping the three boxes back to me and reimbursing me shipping out to their refurbisher. There were some 12/24 cus, sets, 308 and 616 units.

So I guess that closes the book. They swear their refurbisher calls the base the "stands" and the lower casing the "base" and that he won't pay for what I call the base. But I am only out a few hours when I get my shipping back. Know anyone who wants to buy a few Spirit bases (the part that hangs on the wall)?

Now it is the refurbisher that is telling her that I sent the stands, not the bases.

My head hurts! Each phone was complete with the bottom half of the housing I'm sure unless you took them apart. The base is a separate item. What difference does it make what he calls them. Couldn't he see how it works once he got them? Typical refurbisher. And you wonder why refurbished stuff has so many problems.

Maybe this idiot was thinking of the old MLS sets that had to have the bottom of the housing removed and turned around in order to hang it on a wall jack?

Hey! Some of us have a clue! Just not all of us.
A bottom housing is a bottom housing and a base stand can be called a stand, a base, or a base stand. One way or the other, the guy is wrong.

Last, what the heck is he going to do with bottom housings? How is he going to make a complete set? Why bother buying pieces of phones to refurb when you can buy those beasties complete and intact including the base stand for peanuts ?
