I’m looking to upgrade our Partner II phone system to something newer, being the IT guy a PC based GUI being #1 on my list lol.

The Partner R7 Control unit and Partner Messaging R7 main module has some attractive features. In their literature I see:

“All expansion modules, PCMCIA cards, Voice Mail systems and telephone sets can migrate and work with the ACS R7”

I’m a bit leery of that statement. If I purchased the R7 Control Unit and Messaging Unit can I still use our 206E Module R4.1 units to help reach the number of phones we need? What about our Avaya Partner-34D phones or the Lucent Partner-18D phones?

Our business is also growing fairly rapidly. We are currently looking for office space else where in our 24 story building. Are these systems capable of handling a remote office like that? What other equipment would I need to put phones in that office?

TIA

You could use your old 206's but there proably pretty old. And yes you can reuse your phones.

You being a IT person you may want to take a look at the Avaya IP Office system.

Of course you can. All Partner equipment from day one is compatable with all other Partner equipment with a few exceptions that would have nothing to do with your situation.

Problem is that the R7 should never have seen the light of day until they worked the bugs out of it and there still are some. The R7 was just supposed to be an R6 with two more lines and another extension but something went terribly wrong when they mucked with the software. I have never used one yet, I don't need the headaches.

Use the R6 which is just offered concurrently with the R7 so neither is "newer". The R6 offers the same features and you can use all your old equipment and phones.

24 stories? No problem as long as there is "house" wiring that can be used for your extensions.

Well Avaya recommends ATA's (IP) for long distance runs , but you can only have POTS functionality really. Better to stick to an IP Office or an S8300

This isn't a "long distance run". If you went top to bottom you are probably talking less than 400 feet of cable. And I'm sure you aren't going from the first floor to the 24th floor are you?

If you want to dump something that is perfectly good and spend $$$$$$ for an IP office system be my guest.

I see no reason to dump the partner if everyone is going to be in one building. Who cares what floor they are on. Some riser cable and a few x connects and your done.

So, you would recommend ripping out something that is well suited for the job and replacing it at great expense with something that offers no benefit over what they have? That's keeping it simple?

I don't see where the "enterprise" is here. He's not talking about the whole building, only a couple of separate spaces. I've done that with a Partner even with the spaces located in separate buildings.
