I have a customer who wants to move his Partner system from one room to another. I have completed installing the new Cat 5 for the extensions and lines into the system. Is there any concerns in powering down the system and then back on? It's a small system with(2) 206 modules.

no problems , if its just two 206s the battery is probably shot and you will lose programing , but theres not much to program there anyway .

I am with Skip, since there is a slight chance that the Partner may lose programming. Still, I can't imagine that there hasn't been a power outage recently which would also have wiped out the programming. Just keep it connected until the last minute and move it quickly. Plug it in as soon as you get to the other site, even if the system isn't even mounted on the wall yet.

I do have to ask: Why in Heaven's name would you run CAT5 cable runs for the lines and extensions? Even current-production systems don't require such an expensive type of wiring. This is like providing an 8-lane interstate to get up your driveway. It's quite a bit of overkill for that system. I am just asking.

Thanks for the replies Skip and Ed.
The customer ran the Cat 5 before I got there. All I have to do is put on the connectors and punch down. I will take Ed's advice and move quickly.

Hi Ed,
I personally use CAT5E for all V+D runs because today the differance in prices between those two just almost nothing. Besides If I ever need to convert those to IP I have all covered.

If the customer has a Partner, Partner II or Partner Plus system, they might want to consider upgrading to the Partner ACS.

One advantage of such an upgrade is that programming is protected by 2 user-replaceable "AAA" batteries as opposed to the internal batteries found on older processors.
