I'm not familiar w/ Avaya... I think its a 87 Media Server. All tails are cut down on patch panel and my feeds are cut down on patch panel. My guys are making patch cords (6 conductor silver satin) to use for connecting to the feeds. Should they make them str8 through or crossover?
Regular line cords are cross-over. I'm thinking the patch cords should be str8. Thanks.

Regular line cords aren't crossover, they just reverse tip and ring. Either way should work fine. This assumes you're talking about a TDM phone system.

right reverse t&r. so we should be ok w/ using cords with the t&r reversed @ the patch panel. they are TDM phones. phones are not polarity sensitive? Thanks

You should be fine. Straight through should work fine also. You'll fine line cords made both ways now days. The reversal was for when phones were polarity sensitive. Some 4 wire systems still require proper polarity on the data pair, but I haven't seen that as an issue on Avaya products. If I'm wrong I'm sure one of our Avaya gurus will be along to correct me.

Why are you making cords? That's what patch cords are for. If the reason is you are worried about polarity you need to understand telcom a bit better.

We make the cords to the length needed. Makes for a neat looking data rack. No trying to hide xtra unneeded slack. I've worked on systems that require pairs 4 and 5 to be straight through and not reversed.

I am going to assume that we are talking about digital or analog phones, as my answer won't apply to IP phones.
Either way will work. The communiction manger does not care if the cord is straight or crossed.
