if you could steer me in the right direction that would be really nice. Also, there is no extension 16. is there a reason for that?

What you are asking is beyond the scope of this board. We cannot assist with installer level information. We let you slide and told you how to configure the system for the messaging but at this point we suggest that you contact a local dealer in your area to handle the rest of your problems and questions.

so a guy trying to help his small company out by doing his own admin on equipment that the company owns is beyond the scope of this board? its a few simple questions. I am not asking how to do it, just tell me where to look in the documentation.

What folks are trying to do is help. They know from experience users getting into areas of programming they really have no business getting into can cause more harm than good. The advice was solid, establish a relationship with a good vendor and get a little OJT on the admin stuff than can easily be changed.

Yes. If you called a dealer out of the phone book and asked them support questions how much information do you think you would get?
Most of us are dealers here and we are happy to help out with general questions and questions about information found in the user documentation for a system. We would be giving away the farm if we provided in depth installer level help to everybody who asks.
You saved a bundle by buying an old used system. What you are asking shouldn't take more than an hours worth of a local dealer's time.

I work in software, I take care of computers everyday. I work with programmers. I understand about programming. I am on other boards helping people with computer problems. I programmed our old phone system. we are trying to save money. all I am asking for is a place to look. I am guessing it's in some documentation somewhere. how it is helping by telling me to hire someone?

Or better yet, since you saved a bundle buying a used system and you don't want to pay for a service call, pack it up and send it someplace for repair :-)
Don't throw logic out the window when it comes time to figure out why 16 doesn't work. It isn't a mystery, it's a Partner. Check 15 and 17. If they work, try to find out what's different. As far as your 312 goes, I'd have to get out the manual and read the instructions...I believe the term is RTFM... Isn't that the reason you bought the phone system?

I see you started here asking about issues with a 124i , so shall we assume when you couldn't solve that problem on your own you went to eBay and bought a used partner that you now cant program had you paid a vendor you could still be using the 124i which a a far more sophisticated system than the partner

so you are telling me that since I was asking about the 124i phone system, and now I am asking about a new system, that must mean that I wasn't able to fix a 12 year old system? and after paying the vendor who was also not able to fix it that it was all me? I wouldn't want you to answer for me when you say "shall we assume"
I have been RTFM, I was just asking for some ideas of what it might be called. I didn't say that extension 16 didn't work I asked about why the labeling would go from 15 to 18
