With the Merlin Magix having been retired over a year ago, one question that comes to mind is how much longer will replacement drives for the Merlin Messaging be available? While there are companies that sell replacement drives, I'm guessing that the drive supply isn't exactly infinite.

My guess is they will be around for quite some time based on the ease of repairing / replacing the older Partner Mail VS modules.

I read elsewhere that some estimates suggest that within 1 to 2 years, replacement hard drives for the Merlin Messaging will be scarce.

I'm betting the aftermarket repair guys will come up with replacement hard drives for 10 years! The real computer nerds, er techies, will rob, cheat, and steal, just to prove they can make the later hard drives work! John C. (Not Garand)

The systems work as long there is a demand for parts.
Cost on older equipment do go up and can do down.
Said here: read elsewhere that some estimates suggest that within 1 to 2 years, replacement hard drives for the Merlin Messaging will be scarce.
You are wrong and who ever said that and got that into your mindset. I'm still repairing 1A2 30 years later.
If you want to keep it going and you have 100 installed messaging units you would be surprised how capitalism responds to this need.
There has to be about Six million of then in service.
Now that's a market place.

I hope, for the sake of companies that want to hold on to their Legend/Magix telephone systems that hard drives will be available for a long time to come.

I have actually seen a "SOLID STATE" hard drive set up for a Partner Mail.
There's no reason one of those couldn't be used for a Merlin Mail as well.
Messaging uses a Larger (Capacity) HD, but I would imagine that a similar solution will be found.

If someone ever decided to mass produce a reliable, solid state hard drive for the Merlin Messaging/Merlin Mail, I would be more than willing to purchase a few of them (assuming that the price wasn't somewhere up in the stratosphere). Anything to extend the life of the Magix system.

I found a listing for a solid state drive for the Merlin Messaging. If the device turns out to be reliable, it could really extend the life of the Magix platform.

Solid state drives for the MM are readily available, as well as the traditional laptop drives. There aren't any solid state replacements YET for the 007MLM...but who knows what a motivated guy can come up with?
Tom Daugirdas (stcg.com) is well rehersed in the replacement of these drives. I'll forward this thread to him in hopes that he will chime in as well.
