I'm looking for a device that will record a phone conversation, sending the audio to a computer as a .wav file, or .mp3. I know there are many options out there, but I would like to hear your opinions as to what the best one for my needs would be. So, here's what's needed:

* A call logger (multi-line) recorder is not needed. Single line only.
* Must be small enough to fit on or under a desk.
* Can be connected to line cord or handset cord.
* Can be connected to computer via line in, mic, or usb.
* Can be recorded in .wav or .mp3 format. (mp3 prefered)
* Must be good quality audio on both incoming and outgoing voice.
*** MUST be easy to use for a non technical type person.
* Transformer powered is prefered vs battery power.
* Cost is a big factor.

If you have any experience (good or bad) with any of the recording devices, I would like to hear the pro's and con's.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Quick update:

I've done a search on this board and found a post by MrGemini. Here's what he posted sometime back in 2004:

Dear Teleconnects,
We would like to introduce ourselves. We are the producers of the USB Recorder. This device allows users to record room and phone conversation via a USB cable. No additional hardware is required and a two minute installation gets users up and recording at no time. All audio files are saved to the pc in wave format. If you have an interest to learn more about our product, please visit www.usbrecorder.com or feel free to call me at 203-221-8181
I'll look into this product. Sounds like what I need.

Is this going to need to record automatically or will the person at the desk initiate the recording?

If they will be recording their own call from their computer ow about an interface device that will attach directly to the linecord. You can build them for $5-10 each, there would be no power required (battery or transformer). One end attaches to the line cord and the other end plugs into the input side of the sound card on the computer. From there you can record in whatever format you want.
