Sometime last night, something happened (unsure what) but we now have a squeal coming from the ACS 3.0 Processor Card. We currently have only this card in a backplane. All of the stations ring (and pass the caller ID) for incoming calls, but when picked up, only static can be heard.
I can't point to anything that happened last night that would cause any changes.
Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Darren Ehlers

Things that go bump in the night. Unfortunately it looks like your ACS bit the dust. Time for a new R6.

That's what I was afraid of.
Can you give me a ballpark cost of replacement R6?
Maybe a PM quote?
Thanks,

What's the difference (feature-wise) between an R6 and an R7?

Out of the box, the R7 processor supports 5 lines and 9 extensions. The R6, which is similar to the R3, supports 3 lines and 8 extensions.
With the R7, configurations can be saved internally as well as to an external memory card and you can connect an external modem to the processor for remote access.

Also, any / all future development, enhancements and software updates will be on the ACS R7 platform only.

One thing nice about the R6, when you get one it has a firmware which is at worst case is not going to auto change the time according to the new DST schedule. With the R7 it is often in need of a firmware upgrade in order to function properly, which without may cause you some problems.
I have also experienced some R7's which after power loss lose their programming regardless of if the back up batteries are dead or not. I suggest you stay with the r6 until the R7 comes out with the firmware upgrades already installed. You can spend some money, and get the firmware loading software, and buy an upgrade card, and upgrade the R7, but I am not going to waste my time with it. When Avaya gets them coming out with the right firmware I will buy one.
I can not recommend any technology platform, only technicians!
