Look here now, you need to get off of the current network. If the VM Pro is in the same location as the 412 and you are using digital sets then plug that VM Pro directly into the IPO unit. If the unit only has one IP port and or you are also using IP phone sets then you need to have the network admin create a different VLAN for voice. If multiple offsites are involved then the Admin needs to route this VLAN across sites and make sure that Voice (RTP) traffic has QOS priority across the remote link.

I have a large IPO install with over 100 IP sets and a wireless Spectrlink with Cisco APs all communicating on its own VLAN. It works like a charm. The problem you are icurring is there is too much chatter and broadcasting going on in their current network. Isolate it on a VLAN and it will work fine.

I can only agree with Phoneuser It is most definitely down to network traffic.

They are 10/100. Is the switch port they are plugged into set to 10/100 Full? Dont let the computer geel tell you they are at Auto, it wont be correct.....MAKE it 10/100 full.

If I set the ETHERNET switch to 100 full then it shows tons of port errors. If I set it to 100 half, then the errors go away, however I have just created a collision domain. This tells me that the IP office is hardcoded at 100 half. How do it change it to be hardcoded at 100 full?

Jlumby,

As far as I know there is no way to set the duplex for the NIC. I have set up many VM Pro systems. There is usually no problem. There should be plenty of bandwidth within a closed network at 100 half or full. Unless there is an unusually high amount of chatter from some kind of equipmenton the same LAN or if your routing through a bottleneck. Half or full should not be an issue except that both ends of the connection should be set the same way. Your IPO is not special I have set up the same systems at half duplex and they work fine.

As far as DSCP, the VM Pro does not manage DSCP settings. That is for switches and routers to use in deciding what priority a packet has when going through the devices. If using Cisco switches it probably does not hurt for you to set AUto QOS on the ports effecting RTP streams. By default both the IPO and VMP use EF setting for RTP so don't worry about setting that parameter.

There may be an issue with the version of software you are running on either piece of equipment. I had an incident where I had a totally voip IPO system working great that I upgraded to gain some new features. As soon as that was done the whole system encountered echos and choppy voice. Avaya support was only interested in getting logs and testing certain hypothesis. After 2 days of that the customer wanted it fixed quick. So I downgraded them back to the original version on the IPO. So you see, it may not be anything you are doing. Avaya and their IP Ofc product is notorious for coming up with a crappy version every other release. I suggest you also work with your support from your reseller or Avaya. They can point you in the right direction.

Just got the issue solved with the VM Pro. Turns out that unknown to us, the corporate IT folks installed an antivirus program on the PC running VM pro. It did not show up as an icon, it just ran active file scanning as a service. After disableing the service, everything is great!

Yes, I have heard of this before. Just had not thought of it.

Glad to see it come to an end.
