Does the partner R7 allow remote maintenance through say a network port or is it modem only?

Really a US Robotics modem connected to the serial port if you want to have any success. The ethernet port does nothing.

Has is correct. To be virtually 100% assured of connectivity, an extertnal modem to the Admin port is the best way. The RAC card has always had "challenges", and we are working on resolving this in the near future.
As for the Ethernet port - stay tuned...

Yes..I just found out the etnernet port is useless, unlike on the magix. Can they do an offsite backup using the modem?

Sure. You update the file (either download an existing from the ACS or create a new one) on the PC with Partner PC Admin then upload it to the ACS. So you can do anything you want with the file on the PC.
