I have a network that runs without a problem, until I plug in my IP Office 4.1, at which point the gateway seems to disappear. Pinging it fails intermittently, but often, and attempting to browse websites often fails, too. Unplugging the IPO immediately resolves the problem. Any reason why this should be ?

Is the IP Office set to DHCP - issuing IP addresses on its own?

Not on LAN1. I have LAN2 set up to run DHCP, so that I can get in if I have a problem, but the WAN interface is not connected at all.

I usually set the IPO to a static address that is part of the LAN and disable the DHCP. Be sure to put the gateway address in as well. As you may know, the IPO should be just another device added to your network. Make sure it is plugged in to a switch, rather than the router. Don't use the LAN ports between the router and your switch. If you need remote access, load Logmein on the VM PC - assuming you are running VM PRO.

I did a packet capture which shows that the IPO is looking for a license, even though the card is in it. Seems like the box is bad.

Try changing the "License Server IP address" to 0.0.0.0 instead of the default 255.255.255.255

That is assuming you have an IP500 or an IP4XX with a serial dongle attached directly to the unit.

If you have a license dongle on another machine, enter the ip address of that machine instead of letting the system search for it.

this is an IPO with a card in a slot, not a dongle.

yes, LAN2 was set up before the install with the default IP and DHCP on so I can get into the box if I'm locked out of LAN1

Now things have changed a bit. Avaya produced a new firmware version 4.1.1201, saying there was another case like mine, and suspecting pointer corruption. Now I can leave the IPO plugged in, and I can start an IP phone pulling files from the TFTP server, but once that's done, and the phone reboots, it comes up with "Discover x.x.x.x", which is the IPO address, and hangs, and my remote gateway disappears. The remote network continues to work just fine, which tells me that the phone is doing something bad.

Can you ping the IPO IP address from the remote network?
