Installed an IP Office 412 about a year ago at a customers site, replaced a system 25 that was very reliable, but had been out grown. The majority of the phones are SL type. Having an issue with calls being put on hold that I never had with the System 25. Had noticed it at the time of install and Avaya originally told me that I would have to use 6200 series phones,(6211,6219,6221) as these phones provided a "positive disconnect" which they said would disconnect the call when the hookswitch was depressed, no matter how fast, and that there was a flash button on the phone for transfer, and conference..etc.... So I install about 10 6219 phones this morning and they still do the same thing. I question Avaya and everyone suddenly has Amnesia. I am running 4.1.15 software on the switch, what can I do to insure that when the hookswitch is depressed that the call hangs up and still allow the flash button to be used.
I am getting so sick of Avaya and their support on this product. I don't think they know what is going on. Even on their 'IP Office Knowledge Base" site they state that these are the only phones to use because of 'Positive Disconnect", Help me please.

Yes, ITT/Cortelco and Vodavi/Vertical make single line sets that have a "tap" or "recall" button, which is the only way to generate a switch hook flash. If the switch hook button(s) are hit, a mandatory two-second disconnect is created, resulting in accidental "bouncing handsets" not placing calls on consultation hold.

Ed, I think what he is saying is that when the handset is placed back on hook the system places the line on hold. Is this correct?

Have you tried setting Disconnect Tone to ON to see if it forces it. About all I can think of.

The issue is I want the calls to disconnect when they hit the hookswitch. The problem is the people work at acollection agency so they "dial for dollars". If someone they call doesn't answer they hit the hookswitch so fast that it is putting that trunk on hold and then they dial out on another line hence tying up a trunk. Unfortunately I can't fix STUPID so I am looking to foolproof the issue.
Sorry if I didn't explain it well

Under the Extension tab, I would play with the "Hook Persistency". That might help.

The only way around this is to use digital phones at each position and train them to use the flash (recall) button.

You're not getting it! He wants the system to RELEASE the line so he can make another call by flipping the hookswitch NOT put it on hold or transfer it.

There must be a way in programming to disable any feature that requires a swhk flash.
