Hello! We have occasional visitors who we would like to set up VM for however not have it bound to a physical extension. I have no trouble creating the VM and accessing it from the AA or the VM button however when a receptionist attempts to transfer a caller to the VM, we receive the hi/low error tones. I expect this as the actual extension does not exist. Is there a way to convince the system to allow a transfer to VM without there being a physical extension?

TIA!!

Yes, renumber an unused adjunct extension to match the virtual mailbox, and add it to the voice mail coverage group.

Thanks Tommy! By adjunct do you mean one of the unused extensions like the ones in the 7100 range just below that which the VM uses? I think we have 5 open in that range.

No, adjuncts are in the 7300 range. For every multiline extension port, there is an adjunct port that you can use for such things.

If the multiline extension's original extension number in "set up space" was 7100, its adjunct is 7300, and so on.

Print your Dial Plan, or the Extension Directory, and you will see them.

You're awesome Tommy! I have the print outs and now see the adjuncts. Odd though, the VM extension I wanted to use is already the same as an ID that has been assigned the extension number. The odd thing though is that we do not physically have a card that has that ID. ID#:107 has 206/406 but I cannot add either to the VM group. I can renumber 406 but will it have to be something other than 206?
(206 being the ideal VM extension but I'm not opposed to a 4 digit that is not a 1 or 2)

When you say VM group, do you mean the Cover Group (1-30)

You say you can renumber 406, but did you try? If it's no longer in the system, after putting in 406 as the old extension and hitting enter you will get an error tone(rejection).

If your print out is old you may want to print a new extension directory just to make sure the extensions are still there.

Yup. Cover group 30. We receive error tones hi/lo on any of the extensions that do not have a physical extension or port.
I ran the print job this morning.

Basically what we need are up to 6 virtual VM boxes that are not tied to an extension but can have callers forwarded to them so we can use the Unified Messaging forward the VM to e-mail.

This is because we have a small team of users who travel to this office for a day or so every now and then and will not be in an assigned location. Their other office uses a different system that I really don't even want to talk about ;-(

I'm sure I'm just missing something being I'm such a naive novice on these systems.

Physically, we have A Merlin Magix with Merlin Messaging both are latest versions 1-412 TDL and 3-016 ETR cards

Extensions begin at 100 and work their way up.
Per the print out, we have far more ID#'s than we have devices that can use them.

Many of those extensions have VM (not all - conference rooms etc do not)

Only the 12 extensions on the 412-TDL card will have adjunct extensions. Sorry, when I said every mulriline had them available, I didn't take into account ETR's.

Now, I only count 72 logical ID's, if you have 1-412, 3-016's, and a Messaging. There could be "phantom" boards in there. If you want to PM or email me your reports, I'd be happy to give them a look.
